Alice Mae (Nigl) Appold was bornApril 11, 1930, in Richville, MI into thefamily of Andrew and Margaret (Beiser) Nigl. She was baptized into theKingdom of God at St. Michael Lutheran Church, in Richville. Shortly thereafter, she moved to be raised by her foster parents,Uncle Julius and Mary (Beiser) Enser. Alice was confirmed in her faith in Jesuson April 18,1943 at Trinity Lutheran in Monitor, MIAlice retired from Bay Medical Center after many years of work in the Patient Accounts Department. After her retirement, Alice earned two A. A. degreesfrom Delta Community College. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church-Frankenlust, and enjoyed serving in the St. Paul Adult Mixed and the Ladies Choirs and the St. Paul Ladies Aid, holding a variety of offices. She particularly enjoyed the research and work for the St. Paul Historical committee, which produced material for the 150th Anniversary of St. Paul and the 100th Anniversary of the present church building. She is survived by her husband, Robert C. Appold, whom she married August 20, 1949; four children, Patrice M. Appold of Bakersfield California; Beth (James) Krause of Grand Ledge, Michigan; Rev. Robert B. (Elizabeth) Appold of Alto, Michigan; and Rev. Paul (Carrie) Appold of Lansing, Illinois. She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren: Matthew, Aaron, & Nathan Krause; Benjamin, Sarah, David (Liz) Gregory Appold; Elise, Travis, Rachel and Caroline Appold. Alice's extended surviving family include one sister, Helen (Lee) Gotham of Saginaw; and in-laws Marilyn Appold, Loren (Carol) Appold, Wilma (Ernest) Zeilinger, Harold (Mary Lou ) Appold, and Floyd (Julia} Appold, all of Bay City; her foster sister (cousin) Clara Wegener, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one grandson, Luke Daniel Appold; her parents, Andrew and Margaret (Beiser) Nigl; her brothers and sisters, Norman Nigl, Carolyn (Chris) Barnhart, Otto (Helen) Nigl, Eleanor (Lloyd) Buzzard, Oscar (Hannah) Nigl, Hilda Nigl, Dorothy (Clarence) Dewar, Walter Nigl, Louis (Maxine) Nigl; her foster parents Uncle Julius and Mary (Beiser) Enser; foster sisters, Esther (Ottomar) Hammerbacher, Ruth (Raymond) Neumeyer; foster brother in law; Roland Wegener, and foster brother Herman (Esther) Enser. Funeral Services will take place Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust (6094 W. S. Saginaw Road) Officiating will be Rev. Paul D. Theiss and Rev. Corey J. Grunklee with interment following in the Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Tuesday from 1:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.. Mrs. Appold will be taken to the church on Wednesday to lie in state from 9:30 a.m. and until the time of services. In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the St. Paul Ministry Center Fund or the St. Paul Lutheran Endowment Fund will be available.
