Betty went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 5, 2022 at Bayfield Assisted Living at the age of 93. She was born on August 31, 1928 to the late Frederick and Helen (Leser) Obermiller in Bay City, Michigan. She was a member of Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church and enjoyed going to church every Sunday as well as Bible Study. She also enjoyed doing donut pick up day with her husband for the Church. Betty was Baptized at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in 1928. She was a bus driver for the Bay City Public Schools from 1973 to 1993. She was the second oldest of 10 kids and grew up on a farm on Monitor Rd. She left school early, after 8th grade, to help raise her younger siblings and work on the farm. After raising her younger siblings and having kids of her own, Betty never stopped being such a kind and thoughtful mother. She would always make sure her family had food to take home with them after Holidays or special events. In her spare time, Betty enjoyed cooking, canning, cleaning, shopping, being a mom, babysitting and grandparenting. She also enjoyed occasional trips to the casino and bus trips to many other places she loved to visit. Most importantly, Betty loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Betty married her husband of 47 years, Peter Carl Elsworth-Hennard III, on September 16, 1950 and they had four children together. She is survived by her children, Peter Hennard IV, Paul Hennard, Dawn (Sam) Dotson and Darcy (Nathan) Cox; grandchildren, Peter Hennard V, Zac (Brandi) Hennard, Shannon (Scott) Bales, Jordon (Melody) Dotson, Tyler (Jenna) Dotson, Wyatt (Maddie) Dotson, Joshua Galindo, Gabriel (Heather) Galindo, Adam (Jessica) Galindo, Amanda Cox and Rebecca Cox; great grandchildren, Peter Hennard VI, Lyllyann Hennard, Carter Hennard, Hannah Hennard, D.J. Bales, Georgianna Dotson, Cecilia Dotson, Louisa Dotson, Elin Dotson, Rowen Dotson, baby Mela on the way, Harper Galindo and Augusta Galindo; siblings, James Obermiller, Thomas (Diane) Obermiller and Marlene (Paul) Chriss; sister-in-law's, Marilyn Obermiller, Darlene Castillo, and Ruth Obermiller and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Betty is predeceased by her husband, Peter Carl Elsworth-Hennard III; siblings, Arlin (Arlene) Obermiller, Gerald Obermiller, Robert Obermiller, JoAnn (Leonard) Jeske, Joyce (Waldo) Mossner and Shirley (Ralph) Bernreuter and daughter-in-law, Sharyl Hennard.
The family of Betty would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff and residence of Bayfield Assisted Living, the Pastor's at Trinity and St. John for making special visits, Doctor Shyam Dandamudi, and Doctor Mark Stewart, CorsoCare Hospice, Residential Home Health and family and friends for their prayers and support.
Funeral Service for Betty will take place on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church with interment to follow at Floral Gardens Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Joel Pankow. The family will be present to receive visitors at the Gephart Funeral Home on Monday, August 8, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the Church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Ev. Lutheran Church located on 33rd St. in Bay City.
