Betty Shields

Betty passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at Traditions Assisted Living in Saginaw, Michigan at the age of 90. The daughter of the late George and Mary (Buerkel) Long was born May 23, 1939 in Bay City, Michigan. Betty was retired from the banking industry as a loan officer and loved dancing, traveling and spending time with her friends and family.

Betty is survived by one son, Jeffrey Shields and one daughter, Tamera (Barry) Nelson; three grandchildren, Amber (Adam) Miller, Cole Nelson and his fiancé, Katie Moon and Abbie Mahlman and her significant other, Shane Creech; four great grandchildren, River, Willow, Cash and Theo; one brother, Norman (Diane) Long; special friend, Larry Neetz and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Shields.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Traditions Assisted Living for the compassion and care that they gave to Betty.

At the request of Betty, cremation has taken place and no services are being planned at this time. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or American Hospice.
