Bonnie J. Scheddel

Bonnie passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Sheffield Bay Assisted Living at the age of 89. She was born in Bay City, Michigan on August 21, 1934 to the late Wilson and Leona (Adair) Bowden. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for 68 years and was also a Deacon and choir member over the years. Bonnie loved Apple products and belonged to the Mac Club. She worked at the Bangor Schools from 1968 to 1992, primarily working at Bangor West Elementary School. She also enjoyed reading, painting, gardening and golfing. On September 6, 1952, she married her High School sweetheart, Duane “Dewey” Scheddel, and they were married for over 60 years before his passing in 2012.
Bonnie is survived by her children, Lynn (Fred) Heckerthorn, Tim (Vicki) Scheddel and Jan Caldwell; grandchildren, Seth (Angela) Heckerthorn, Kate (Jeff) McDaniel, Paige Caldwell and Brooke Caldwell; great grandchildren, Anna Heckerthorn, Lena Heckerthorn, Lillian McDaniel and William McDaniel; sister, Sandra Whelton; brother, James (Barbara) Bowden; sister-in-law’s, Beverly Scheddel and Margene Bowden; brother-in-law, Bob VanAcker and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Kathy VanAcker; brother, Forest “Bud” Bowden; brother-in-law’s, Larry Scheddel and Ken Whelton; son-in-law, Steve Caldwell and nephew, Gary Scheddel.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Sara, Megan and Kathy who are with The Care Team Hospice, Rev. Jamie Milton and Rev. Linda Williams from Westminster Presbyterian Church for coming to visit her often, the caregivers at Sheffield Bay Assisted Living for always being there, Bonnie’s sister-in-law, Margene Bowden for being by her side during her last days and her friend and neighbor, Sue Bishop.
Funeral Service will take place on Friday, September 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church. A private interment will take place at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will be present to receive visitors at the Gephart Funeral Home on Thursday, August 31, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or your favorite Charity.
