Mr. Stewart passed away on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at New Hope Valley at the age of 89. The son of the late James Stewart and Ella (Roggow) Thornton was born May 12, 1932 in Saginaw, Michigan. Charles served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war and worked for C&O Railroad until his retirement in 1993. Charles liked the warm weather and spent his winters in Florida and summers in Michigan. Chuck loved doing Sunday crossword puzzles and complaining about the Detroit Lions and Tigers!
Mr. Stewart is survived by his three sons, Scott (Shirley) Stewart, Charles "Mark" Stewart, Johnny Stewart; two daughters, Amy (David) Mocny, Beth Wirgowski; nine grandchildren, Ryan (Colleen), Eric (Mara), and Kyle Stewart, Sara (Russell) Thomas, Heather (Gregg) Toyzan, Michael, Stephanie Stewart, Lindsay (Brian) Machiniak and Abby (Christopher) Madden; 12 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild coming in July; two sisters-in-law, Pam (Dale) White and Linda Meier; one brother-in-law, Robert Beckrow and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Meier) in 1994; brother and sister-in-law, Floyd and Madeline Fretter; sister and brother-in-law, Geri and Thomas Millerick; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alvin and Mildred Meier; daughter-in-law, Deanna Stewart; son-in-law, Dennis Wirgowski and brothers and sisters-in-law, Ken and Nancy Meier, Peg Beckrow and Earl Meier.
A memorial service will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the Gephart Funeral Home. Inc. Officiating will be Jane Grzegorczyk. Visitation will take place on Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. We are currently still under the governor's executive order of social distancing and limited to 25 visitors in the chapel at one time. You may experience a wait while paying your respects. Memorial cards for the American Cancer Society will be available.
