Curtis passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 at McLaren Bay Region at the age 81 years. Curtis was born in Farrar, Missouri on July 14, 1937 to the late Carl and Esther (Niermeier) Freudenburg. He graduated from Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska receiving his Master's degree in education at Central Michigan University and went on to teach at Zion Lutheran School in Bay City from 1960 until his retirement in 2002. During that time he taught several generations of students, coached athletics and instilled a respect for learning, hard work and fair play. He married the former Sue Compton in Austin, Texas on June 16, 1962 and were both members of Zion Lutheran Church. In his spare time he enjoyed baseball, fishing, painting, drawing, reading, gardening and golfing.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Sue; daughter, Carla Jean (Mark Connors) Freudenburg of Bethesda, Maryland; son, David Carl (Marica Magdic) Freudenburg of Lake Worth, Florida; grandchildren, Anna C. Connors, Logan C. and Sienna J. Freudenburg; sister, Rebecca A. Freudenburg of Bay City; sisters-in-law, JoNell (Sam) Pena and Marian Compton, both of Houston, Texas.
Funeral and Committal service will take place on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Schilke with private burial in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home on Friday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Mr. Freudenburg will be taken to the church to lie in state on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
