Sue passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, March 17, 2023, at McLaren Bay Region Hospital at the age of 84. She was born on April 19, 1938, to the late Gregory J. and Ella Mae (Davis) Compton in Goliad, Texas. Sue was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church. She attended Concordia University, Nebraska (Concordia Teachers College) and graduated in 1960 after receiving her Bachelor’s Degree. She began her teaching career at Zion Lutheran School, and continued her teaching career at Immanuel Lutheran School in 1968. She taught kindergarten and first grade until her retirement in 2003. She married Curtis. C. Freudenburg in 1962 in Austin, Texas. They spent over 57 years together before his passing in 2019. Sue was a talented seamstress and enjoyed reading, baking and walking. Sue was an enthusiastic collector of dolls of the mid-20th century. She loved her grandchildren dearly and delighted in their visits and adventures.
Sue is survived by her children, Carla Jean (Mark Connors) Freudenburg of Bethesda, Maryland and David Carl Freudenburg (and Marica Magdic, mother of Logan and Sienna), of Lake Worth, Florida; grandchildren, Anna C. Connors of Bethesda, Maryland, Logan C. Freudenburg and Sienna J. Freudenburg of Lake Worth, Florida; sister-in-law, Rebecca A. Freudenburg of Bay City, Michigan; two nieces, one nephew and one great nephew. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, JoNell Pena of Houston, Texas and Marian Compton of Houston, Texas; one niece and one nephew.
Funeral Service for Sue will take place on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Pastor Phillip Baerwolf. A private interment will take place in Floral Gardens Cemetery. The family will be present to receive visitors at Gephart Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Thursday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
