David passed away peacefully on Monday, January 1, 2018, at his home. He was 82 years old. DavidBoyd Doan was born on January 5, 1935, in Bay City to the late Boyce B. and MargueriteC. (Mulholland). David proudly served his country with the United States Army,1st Cavalry Division, serving one tour during the Vietnam War and two tours inKorea. He then continued his service with the Army, spending nine years inGermany. David retired from the Army on January 31, 1975, as a Staff Sergeant.He returned to Bay City and worked for Conley Security and Rogers Hobby Shop inSaginaw. He enjoyed flying remote control model airplanes with the FrankenmuthAeromodelers and also enjoyed fly fishing. David met the love of his life,Barbara A. (Dubay) Nichols and they were married on November 24, 2007, in BayCity. Together, David and Barb enjoyed camping in Michigan, and wintering inTucson, Arizona. In 2013, they rescued Sid, their dear, furry canine companion.David was a very talented artist and enjoyed drawing lighthouses, still lifeand ships.
David's memory will be forever cherished by his wife, Barb; children: Michael (Stormy) Doan, Renee(Kevin) Shabram, George (Susan) Doan and Craig (Sherry) Nichols; grandchildren:Victoria and Elizabeth Doan, Ashley (Trevor) Pilling-Miller, Andrew (Michelle)Kuhlman and Michael (Brandy) Nichols; great-grandchildren: LeeannPilling-Miller, Elijah Doan and Bradyn Nichols; and a sister, Sharon (Donald) Kukla.David was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald(Helga) Doan.
The Funeral Liturgy and Rite of Committal will be celebratedon Monday, January 8, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Parish - St. Mary'sChurch. The celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Patrick M. Jankowiak. Burial withmilitary honors will take place on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Great Lakes NationalCemetery, Holly, Michigan. Friends may visit with the family at the GephartFuneral Home, Inc. on Sunday from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. The vigil for the deceased willtake place on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Doan will be takento the church on Monday to lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until the time of themass.
