Donald A. Divine "Don"

Don was born March 19, 1949 in Bay City, Michigan to Ora and Edith (Smith) Divine. He graduated from John Glenn High School in 1967 and was drafted into the US Army, serving in Germany from 1969 to 1971. Don was retired from Grand Trunk Railroad having worked in Bay City, Durand and Pontiac. He loved building and remodeling, and built several of the homes he lived in and kept his builder’s license active for many years. He loved helping on building projects with Bay County Habitat and building ramps with Disability Services Resource Center.

Don loved being outdoors and was an avid hunter, especially during duck, partridge and rabbit season. His faithful hunting companions, Bandit, Butch, Bob and Buddy were always ready to run rabbits. Buddy and Don could also be found on their daily walks and adventures in Bay City State Park. The Park was always a special place for Don. When he wasn’t hunting, he was fishing and tying flies. Nothing clears your head like standing in a cold stream with your fly rod. Except maybe dropping a line or two for perch. He loved it all.

Don is survived by his wife, Kathryn; daughter, Alisa (Dr. Chris) Zehnder of Frankenmuth and their children, Savanah DeShano (Steven Patterson), Preston DeShano, Colten Zehnder, Grace DeShano, Kylee Zehnder, Blake Zehnder, Stella DeShano and Tessa DeShano; daughter, Michelle (Pat) Hall of Bay City and their children, Talia Kyle, Lauren Hall and Ava Hall; stepdaughter, Courtney (Zack) Burns of Las Vegas, NV and their children, Evan and Peyton Burns. Don is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Barbara Divine and Dolores Bryce and many nieces and nephews.

Don was predeceased by his parents; brother, Thomas; sister, Mary Jane and sister-in-law, Janet Brown.

Arrangements are being handled by Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. and Cremation Services. Per Don’s wishes, cremation has taken place and private services will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Friends of Bay City State Park, 3582 State Park Dr. Bay City, MI 48706.
