Donald "Don" Lawrence Sargent

Don Lawrence Sargent, born on July 15, 1947, in Bay City, Michigan, peacefully passed away on November 11, 2025, at his home. He was a devoted husband, father, soldier, and public servant whose impact will be felt by many. Don accepted Christ as his Savior on October 4, 2025.

Don dedicated 25 years of his life to the Bay City Police Department, serving from May of 1973 until his retirement in August of 1998, where he worked tirelessly as a patrolman. His commitment to his community extended beyond his years in law enforcement; he also served as a firearms instructor for 15 years at Kirkland Community College, imparting his knowledge and experience to countless students.

A veteran of the United States Army, Donald served in Vietnam from 1966 to 1968 with C-Troop, 1st Cavalry, 1st Regiment of Dragons. His bravery and valor were recognized with two Purple Hearts, which he earned during his courageous service. He was also a proud member of the Disabled American Veterans and attended Our Lady of Peace Parish.

Don is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Joyce Sargent; his step daughter, Brenda (Victor) Novakoski; and his step son, Jerod Lentini. He also leaves behind many cherished cousins who will remember him fondly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Virginia (Morris) Sargent.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Cornerstone Baptist Church family, especially Pastor Tim Chapman, for their prayers and support.

At the request of Don, cremation has taken place. Military honors and inurnment will take place at a later date at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to Cornerstone Baptist Church, Heartland Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
