Donald Schultz passed away suddenly on Friday, June 2, 2023 in the comfort of his home. He was born in Bay City on May 6, 1931 to the late Paul and Virginia (Balwinski) Schultz. He had just celebrated his 92nd anniversary because as he always insisted, “You are only born once. The rest are anniversaries”.
He was proud to be in the first (1949) graduating class of Handy High School. He graduated from Bay City Junior College and Saginaw Valley State University. Don was proud of his service in the United States Army during the Korean war. On June 30, 1956 he married Patricia Stalinski at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2021. Don was an accountant and retired from Dow Chemical Company. He was an avid golfer his whole life and collected score cards from different states and countries. Don was an active volunteer in his retirement. He spent many years in Boy Scouts as a leader and member of the Order of the Arrow. He was a nature guide with the Saginaw Bay Visitor Center at Bay City State Park. Don was active on the Visitation Catholic Church Parish Council. He and Pat also volunteered for many years at TV-19 and as election workers.
He is survived by his brother, Kenneth Schultz; three children, Mary (Roger) Machin, Dean (Lisa) Schultz and Dale (Celine) Schultz; grandchildren, Shane (Sarah) Hadd, Nathan (Krystle) Hadd, Zachary Hadd and Sarah (Bryce) Alexander; great grandchildren, Cailin, Parker, Kellen, Arya and Addison; three step-grandchildren and eight step-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife Patricia, he was also preceded in death by his special uncle and aunt, Richard and Marie Balwinski; sister-in-law, Kay Schultz; mother-in-law, Josephine Stalinski; father-in-law, Adam Stalinski and brother-in-law, Robert Stalinski.
At the request of Don, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Parish on Thursday, June 15, 2023. Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Kenneth Stachnik with inurnment and military honors following at St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit at church on Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
