Edward G. Schmidt "Ed" Bay City, Michigan Our loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away early Sunday morning September 18, 2016 at his residence with his loving family at his side. The son of the late Emil and Hulda (Lutz) Schmidt was born August 27, 1928 on the family farm in Frankenlust Township and has resided there all of his life. Age 88 years. He was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Saginaw, the Farm Bureau, had a love for gardening, playing the organ, listening to music, retired in 1994 as a lifelong farmer and most of all he enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends. Left to cherish his memories is his wife of sixty two years the former Audrey Morris, one son and one daughter-in-law; Matthew and Diana Schmidt, one daughter and son-in-law; Patricia and Gregory Kochom all of Bay City, one granddaughter; Dr. Candice and Steven Scott of Grand Rapids, two grandsons; Kyle Kochom of Bay City and Connor Kochom of Reese, one great granddaughter; Nineveh Scott, one sister; Arlene Kernstock of Auburn, one brother and one sister-in-law; Wilmar "Bill" and Elaine Schmidt of Auburn, four godsons; Gilbert Sturm, David Maxwell, Gregory Schmidt and Keith Sturm and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Besides his parents Emil and Hulda he was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers-in-law; Doris and George Maxwell and Kenneth Kernstock and two godsons; Kenny Kernstock and Jerry Lutz. Funeral Services will take place Thursday September 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church 5250 Mackinaw Road Saginaw, Michigan. Officiating will be The Rev. Homer Mosley, Jr. with Entombment in Chapel Hill Mausoleum in Freeland, MI. The family will be present at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. to receive visitors on Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mr. Schmidt will be taken to the church on Thursday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a memorial to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church or McLaren Visiting Nurse Service and Hospice.
