Ernest "Ernie" C. Peltier

Ernest “Ernie” Charles Peltier, age 79, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2025. He was born on December 4, 1945, to Helen Binkowski and Roy Peltier, though it was his stepfather, Harold “Babe”, who truly raised and loved him as a father. Ernie was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and a lifelong public servant.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister Mary, and his brother Louie. He is survived by his wife, Kristen, and his children: Lisa, Annette, Brad (Bree), Shane (Lauren), and Duke (Matt). He also leaves behind three cherished grandchildren: Lincoln, Gabriella, and Spencer. Ernie also had a chosen family with dear friends Mike Anderson and the Tinney family, whose lifelong friendship brought him joy, laughter, and unwavering support.

Born in Detroit, Ernie dedicated his life to law enforcement, serving with distinction for 26 years on the Detroit Police Department, where he became the second most decorated officer in the department’s history at the time of his retirement. He was especially proud to be part of the big four, major crimes, vice, and the tactical mobile unit. His commitment to public safety continued in his later roles with the City of Bad Axe and the Huron County Sheriff’s Office. In total, Ernie served over 50 years in law enforcement before retiring in 2017.

Beyond the badge, Ernie had a soft spot for Hallmark Christmas movies, a deep appreciation for the Golden Age of Hollywood, and a lifelong admiration for John Wayne. A dedicated sports fan, he proudly supported the Montreal Canadiens through every season.

Ernie’s legacy is one of service, integrity, and deep love for his family. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.

At the request of Ernest, cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA) or ASPCA in Ernie’s memory.
