Ernest passed away Sunday, November 30, 2025 at Brittany Manor in Midland, Michigan, at the age 59. He was born November 16, 1966 in Glasgow, Kentucky. He retired in 2005 after a twenty-year career in Virginia Beach, Virginia from the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer. Ernest enjoyed woodworking, camping, the outdoors, was a gun enthusiast and telling military stories.

He is survived by his wife the former Barbara Karmol whom he married June 10, 1989 in Bay City, Michigan; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Zachary and Jordan Ritter of Glasgow, Kentucky and Nickolas Ritter of Bay City, Michigan; his parents, Ernest and Janice Ritter Sr. of Glasgow, Kentucky; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Laura Goad of Glasgow, Kentucky, Lisa and Myron Smith of Smiths Grove, Kentucky; his grandchildren, Jaxton Ritter, Ava Netherton and Grayson Netherton all of Glasgow, Kentucky; his sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Brian Rivet of Grand Blanc, Michigan; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; special friends, Michael and Shelly Meldrum; his special companions, Jack, Jack, Barney and Brody. He was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents; brother-in-law, John Goad: sister-in-law, Jeannine Roznowski; aunts, Pearl and Cille; in-laws, Pete and Roseanna Karmol.

At the request of Ernest cremation has taken place and no local memorial service is being planned. Inurnment will take place in the spring at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
