Esther M. Payne

Mrs. Payne peacefully passed away, Friday, January 6, 2023 at her home with her family by her side at the age of 85. She was born in Bay City, Michigan on September 2, 1937 to the late Bert and Nellie (Johnson) Grover. Esther enjoyed walking with her friends, watching the Detroit Tigers, spending time with her family and gambling at the casino.

Mrs. Payne is survived by her husband, James Payne, who she was united in marriage on June, 30, 1956; children, Jody (Dave), Debbie (Randy), Jimmy and David; grandson, Mike; in-laws, Jan, Helen and Barry; two special friends, Carol and Bonnie; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Esther is preceded in death by her brothers, Herb and Lloyd; son-in-law, Don; grandson, Anthony; and sister-in-law, Elaine.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ben of Harmony Hospice and special caregiver, Matt for the care they provided Esther.

Funeral Service will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Gephart Funeral Home. Officiating will be Apostle Jeff Englehart with private burial taking place at a later date. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be considered to wishes of the family.
