Eugene passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the age of 95 on Friday, February 12, 2021. He was born in Maynard, Iowa on June 12, 1925 to the late Floyd and Anna Bowdish. On July 11, 1983 he married Mary Ann and enjoyed 36 years together before her passing in 2019. After serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII, he graduated with his bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa in 1953. He enjoyed his long, fulfilling career as a physical therapist. Eugene was exceptionally proud of his 1944 high school basketball Iowa State Championship title. He loved to relive the memory with all who listened. Eugene enjoyed the outdoors; he could be found sailing, hiking, or hunting on any given day.
Eugene is survived by his son, Jeff (Trari) Bowdish; grandson, Zak (Nikki) Bowdish; stepchildren, Bill (Mary) Hoern, Mike (Debbie) Hoern, Jim (Sandy) Hoern and Julie (Randy) Dieter; cousins, Lowell (Bonnie) Granemann of Iowa and niece, Jane Kraft of Iowa. He was blessed with several grandkids and great grandkids, including the two newest additions, Elliot (Zak and Nikki Bowdish) and Lexi (Kimberly and Bryan Grzesiek). Longtime loved ones include Ron Scott, Marcie Klida Blossom and Dr. H Platte (1944 Iowa Champ). Eugene was preceded in death by his sister, Betty and nephew, David Kraft.
At the request of Eugene, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Saturday, February 20, 2021 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Private inurnment will take place in Floral Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the University of Iowa or Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
