Eunice passed away on June 14th at Brian's House at the age of 91. She was born in Pinconning, MI on April 15, 1934, to the late Roy and Ocea Peoples.
She married her husband, Donald Smerdon, on November 6, 1954. He preceded her in death in December of 1990. She is survived by their three children, Dan Smerdon, Jim (Laura) Smerdon, and Cathy (Randy) Rezmer, six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and her remaining good friends and family. In addition to her husband and parents, Eunice was preceded in death by her three brothers, Milford, Byron and Clare Peoples, many brother and sister-in-law’s, a daughter-in-law, Terry Smerdon, and a grandson, Shane Rezmer.
Eunice grew up in the town of Crump, where she worked at her family's store during her young years. She graduated from Pinconning High School in 1952. She retired from Bangor Township Schools after working in the kitchen for over ten years. She then began working in the daycare field, and continued to do so for many years after. Until a few years ago, she could always be found outside with a hoe in her hand tending to her many flower beds. She loved family gatherings (always being the last one to sit down), traveling (big trips and small), feeding and watching the birds, feeding the squirrels peanut butter on bread out her patio door, and had found a new love in recent years watching Nascar races (never wanting to miss one). One of her biggest loves was watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up.
Per Eunice's insistence, cremation will take place and there will be no service. Her request instead was for everyone to have a donut and coffee/milk, and to think of her with a smile.
Her family would like to thank McLaren Hospice for the Great care they gave her over the last couple of years. The Nurses, Personal Care Givers, and Social Workers were beyond friendly and caring, and she looked forward to their visits. We would also like to give a Huge 'thank you' to the very special staff at Brian's House. What they do is amazing. The smiles, kindness, tenderness and compassion that they gave our mother these past weeks will never be forgotten.
