Frederick A MacKinnon, age 72, passed away on May 24, 2026 at McClaren Bay Region, after a brief illness. He born August 26, 1953 in Flint, Michigan to his late parents, Frederick A. and Lucille V. MacKinnon. After graduating from Flint Northern High School, Fred earned a degree in psychology from Michigan State University. He graduated from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. Fred served as a clerk to Circuit Court Judge Harry B. McAra, and afterwards opened a private law practice in West Branch, Michigan. He served as a public defender and was then elected Ogemaw County Prosecutor. He later served as an Assistant Prosecutor in Midland County. Fred retired to his home outside of Hale, and became very active in the Community Baptist Church of Saint Helen. Fred loved the northern woods, and found peace in its beauty. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth.
He is survived by his sister, Christy MacKinnon; dearest friend, Sharon Miller, and many others in the Hale and Saint Helen communities.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and doctors at McClaren Bay Region for their compassionate care and support.
At the request of Fred, cremation has taken place and interment will be at the Esmond Evergreen Cemetery, Hale Michigan. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the Community Baptist Church of Saint Helen.
