George David Gawne

George Gawne peacefully went to be with the Lord on January 14, 2026. He was born on January 18, 1951, to George and Helen Gawne of Vassar. He will be lovingly remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and the joy he brought to those around him. George had a gift for conversation and delighted in sharing stories about his favorite hobbies, which included golf, coin collecting, and fishing. His warm smile and genuine happiness could light up any room, and he always made time feel special for anyone who came to visit.

George was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Gawne. Through his marriage to Karen, George gained a large and loving extended family who meant the world to him.

George especially cherished time spent with his family. His grandchildren hold dear many fond memories of sitting with Grandpa, sharing life stories, spending time fishing together, and receiving the very best hugs. His presence was a constant source of comfort, love, and happiness to all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Timothy (Amy) Anderson, Matthew (Jessica) Anderson, Robert (Alexandra) Anderson, Michael David Gawne, and Eric Jason Gawne; and his six grandchildren, Michael, Brennan, Jayce, Mila, Cullen, and Noah David.

A service to celebrate George’s life will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at Gephart Funeral Home, 201 W. Midland St., Bay City, MI 48706. Officiating will be Hank Messing. Visitation will take place on Friday from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contribution to the wishes of the family.
