George Krohn, born in Germany in 1933, passed away on March 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of a large, blended family and friends. George was loving, conscientious, and had an enduring capacity to build connections across every chapter of his journey.
At 18, George immigrated to Bay City, Michigan. In time, he built a life marked by hard work, and close relationships. He married Minerva Eilf in 1959, and together they raised four children. Their eldest son, Robert preceded George in death. His surviving children- Elizabeth Krohn (Dale Ilgen), George Otto Krohn, Maxine (Cha) Douglas (Cliff)-continue to honor his legacy through their families and the values he instilled.
Minerva’s passing in 1987 marked a difficult turning point, yet George again found companionship and love when he met Nannette Brandt. George and Nan shared many happy years, forming a partnership filled with warmth, friendship, and mutual care that lasted through the rest of his life.
George was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him great pride. These growing branches of his family, some through his life with Minerva, some through his life with Nan, reflect the wide circle of love that surrounded him. Through Nan and her children, Julia Kondoff (Robert) and Mark Brandt (Trish), George gained four more adored granddaughters.
George trained as a baker in Germany and was an excellent cook. His specialties included rouladen, soups, and cheesecake. He worked for many years at Saginaw Steering as a Job Setter and also served in the U.S. Army. George dedicated many years of service to the Polish League of American Veterans, including serving as Commander of the local post.
He was an avid soccer player, referee, and spectator. He enjoyed traveling, square dancing, fishing, and boating, as well as fine food, coffee, and cognac. George was also passionate about the game of bridge and competed in many tournaments, ultimately achieving the rank of Life Master.
His love, laughter, and steady presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
George was laid to rest at Floral Gardens Cemetery and a celebration of life is planned for May 17, 2026, in Bay City, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be made in George’s name to Bay County Veterans Council.
