Gerald "Jerry" Paul LaForest

Gerald Paul "Jerry" LaForest, age 74, of Bay City, Michigan, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2026, in Bay City, Michigan. He was born on April 28, 1952 in Battle Creek, Michigan to Raymond Donald and Pauline Edna (Wood) LaForest.

Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army as a member of the legendary 82nd Airborne Division. He carried great pride in his military service throughout his life.

Jerry was a man who enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time fishing, playing chess, and throwing dice with family and friends. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of family, and the many memories he created with those who knew him.

He is survived by his daughter, Nancy Jo and Del Powers of Kentucky; granddaughters, Jacquelyn Moreau of Tennessee and Meagan and Zack Buckalew of Louisiana; and his cherished great-grandchildren, Peyton Jo Woodruff, Harper Ann Buckalew, Jacob Buckalew, Liam Noel West, and Emmett West. He is also survived by three step-grandchildren, Lukas Thum, Andrew Thum, and Matthew Clairday, all of Tennessee and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jerry is further survived by his siblings: Linda and Jackie Brandhurst of Indiana; Mary LaForest of Finch, Ontario, Canada; John and Barbara LaForest of Michigan; Jesse and Kim LaForest of Michigan; Deborah and Lynn Harper of New York; and Gina LaForest of Michigan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Donald and Pauline LaForest; granddaughter, Stephanie Powers and his brothers, Gregory LaForest and Calvin LaForest.

Jerry's family and friends will forever cherish the memories they shared with him and will deeply miss his presence in their lives.

At the request of Jerry, cremation has taken place and no services are being planned.
