Helen passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at Close to Home Assisted Living with her loving caregivers by her side at the age of 99. She was born the youngest of six children in Bay City, Michigan on April 15, 1923 to the late Herman and Margaret (MacDonald) Rhode. Helen was a dedicated member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.  She was an employee for the Bay City Public Schools for many years. She was a very accomplished seamstress and a very traditional cook. Helen was a founding member of the Olde Thyme Herb Society and was involved in planning her Bay City Central High School class of 1941 reunion for 50 years.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Laureen Trail of Idaho; nieces and nephews, Alice Boswell, Nancy Wyszynski, Janet Taberski, Karen Krueger; Tom, Ted, Tim, Bob, and Marsha Tober and Sue Smith; cousin, Dr. Kevin O'Brien. She was dearly loved and cared for in her later years by her bonus sister, Nancy Spencer and bonus son, Bill Owen. In addition to her parents, Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Tober; son, Grant Tober; four brothers, Frederick, Charles, Ward, Howard, and one sister, Marguerite;
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Close to Home Assisted Living for their loving and compassionate care they provided for Helen.
Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Cornerstone Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Jim Howard with private interment following in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, April 25, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gephart Funeral Home. Mrs. Tober will lie in state at the church on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider donations to Cornerstone Baptist Church and Olde Thyme Herb Society.
