Howard passed away early Tuesday morning, August 27, 2013 at Bay Shores Nursing Home at the age of 87 years. The son of the late Lawrence and Elsie (Riegler) Chartier was born May 27, 1926 in Bay City, Michigan. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Howard owned and operated Chartier and Son's Plumbing and Heating for many years and retired from Dow Chemical Company. He was a life member of K of C Council #3590 in Auburn, MI. He served his country during W.W. II in the U.S. Navy. Left behind to cherish his memories are his wife the former Mary L. Petrie whom he married April 28, 1990, his children; Beverly (Terry) LaFond of Pinconning, Rosemarie (Walter) Lijewski of Clayton, MI, Susan (Don) Lijewski of Kawkawlin, Claudia (Tony) La Framboise of Auburn and Jeffrey (Debbie) Chartier of Bay City, his daughter-in-law; Marilyn Chartier of Linwood, his stepson; Matt Columbus of Bay City, ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, his sisters; Virginia Markel, Carol Lewis, Laura (Lowell) Provost and Harriett Leonard, his brother-in-law; Dick Lipan, his sister-in-law; Betty Purtell. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his first wife; Cecelia (Talaga) Chartier in 1982, his son; Bruce Chartier, his granddaughter; Bonnie J. Schmidt, two brothers; James and Thomas Chartier, three sisters; Edna Lipan, Maxine Primeau and Carmen Chartier. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Rev. Fr. James R. Carlson and Sister Virginia Scally SNDdeN will officiate over the funeral rites with the Committal following in Calvary Cemetery followed by Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Navy. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Vigil for the Deceased will take place Friday at 5:00 p.m. followed by the K of C Council #3590 bible presentation. Mr. Chartier will be taken to the church on Saturday to lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
