Howard passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at his residence with his family by his side, at the age of 87. The son of the late Albert and Nellie (Eckinger) Rahn was born April 1, 1934 in Bay City, Michigan. Howard was a very active member of St. Bartholomew Ev. Lutheran Church in Kawkawlin, he was on the school board, served as an usher and elder. Howard retired from the Deli Department at A &P Supermarket and upon retirement worked at Weiss Fruit Market for many years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, he loved to cook, enjoyed camping and bus trips and was involved with the Relay for Life. Howard proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife the former Doris M. Huber whom he married June 25, 1960, two sons and two daughters-in-law; Mark and Jan Rahn and Scott and Barb Rahn; his grandchildren, Keaton (Kayla) Rahn, Andrew (Hannah) Rahn, Heather (Cody) Dignan, Zach (Brianne) Fischer, Jake Fischer and Karly Fischer; 2 great grandchildren, Lilly and Jack Fischer and a 3rd great grandchild expected in May of 2022; his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Mark Anderson; his sister-in-law, Gladys Krueger; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sibling, Harold (Verna) Rahn, Herman (Gloria) Rahn, Albert (Rose Marie) Rahn Jr., Noreen (Walter) Schuchardt, Sophia (Ed) Hawkins, Jerry (Rose Mary) Rahn, Calvin (Joann) Rahn, Richard (Sue) Rahn and Violet Hanthorn; brother-in-law, Larry Krueger.
Funeral and Committal Services will take place Monday, November 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bartholomew Ev. Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Pastor Larry Seafert followed by military honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council and the U.S. Army. Private interment will take place in Floral Gardens Cemetery. The family will be present at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Sunday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. to receive visitors. Howard will be taken to the church on Monday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. The family would like to thank McLaren Visiting Nurses and hospice for their wonderful care, and special thanks to Ann and Loretta.
