Irene Jean Rechsteiner

Irene Jean Rechsteiner, formerly of Bay City, Michigan, passed away Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Ashley Court in Brighton, Michigan.  The daughter of the late Arnold and Ella (Lang) Rechsteiner was born on March 26, 1944, in Kawkawlin, Michigan.  Irene (Auntie) was a beautiful person who was loved by many friends and family.  She enjoyed woodworking, refinishing furniture and listening to Elvis.  Irene excelled at softball for over six decades.   She is a five-time fastpitch state champion, a lifetime member in the Bay County Sports Hall of Fame and played in the national Senior Olympics slow pitch tournament.  Irene was a first generation Swiss American and she retired from General Motors.
Left behind to cherish her memories are her brothers Daniel (Carol) Rechsteiner and James (Karen) Rechsteiner; sisters-in-law, Maxine Rechsteiner, Janece (Babe) Rechsteiner, Rosanne Rechsteiner and Kathleen Rechsteiner; brother-in-law, Lawrence Grove; many nieces and nephews; and special friends Scott and Lynne Armstrong, Cameron (Danielle) Armstrong and Braden (Emily) Armstrong.  In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by brothers Joseph, Harry, Frank, William, LeRoy, Louis, Arnold, John and Benjamin Rechsteiner; sisters Nelly Scherzer, Nancy Grove and Lilly Morgan; and special friend Kathryn (Kaye) Armstrong.
The family thanks the staff of Ashely Court for the exemplary care they provided to Irene.
A Funeral Service will take place Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. at Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Officiating will be Rev. Joseph Atchinson. The family will be present at the funeral home to receive family and friends on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may consider donations to the Alzheimer's Association.
