James W. Bellottie

James Bellottie, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away suddenly at home of natural causes on May 16, 2025. He was 82 years old.

Born on February 17, 1943, in Pennsylvania to the late James and Josephine Bellottie, James lived a life defined by quiet strength, deep love for family, and a passion for the outdoors. He married the love of his life, the late Linda Rule, on August 30, 1980. Their 38 years of marriage were filled with laughter, adventure, and devotion.

James was the proud father of Matthew (Michele) Connelly—who affectionately called him “Old Man,” the late Cornelius Connelly, and Chris Bellottie. He was also a loving father-in-law to Becky Jonson (Connelly).

He found great joy in being “Pappa Booga” and “Pappa Pongo” to his grandchildren Bridgit (Justin) Dillard, Maddison, James Bellottie, and Peyton, Jagger, Ace Connelly,, and was blessed with three great-grandchildren.

James is survived by his siblings Betty (Sebastian) Deledda, Lois (Randy) Poole, and Vincent (Judy) Bellottie. He was preceded in death by siblings Paula Bellottie, Joseph Bellottie, and Robert Bellottie.

For 27 years, James dedicated himself to educating young minds as a teacher at Essexville Garber High School. Outside the classroom, he was most at home in nature—fishing every chance he got, running in his younger days, and later finding joy in riding his bike, going to the gym and having a green thumb in his garden. But nothing brought him more happiness than his family, especially the time he spent as a grandfather and great-grandfather.

He leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories for his son, grandchildren, nieces and nephews as well as extended family, and dear friends, all of whom were touched by his kindness and strength. We will miss him every single day, but we find comfort in knowing he is at peace—reunited with those he missed, and forever fishing in heavenly waters.

In accordance with James’ wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no formal funeral services. Instead, his family will come together for a private celebration of life to honor a man who meant so much to so many.

“Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day… unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and forever dear.”
