Jim passed away peacefully with his family by his side on June 3, 2026 at McLaren Bay Region at the age of 90. He was born to the late Howard and Florence (Stokes) Flood on October 6, 1935 in Bay City, Michigan.
Jim was a kind and honorable Christian man, and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. Jim loved to sing and sang well, praising his Savior in church choirs for 75 years. He served in the United States Air Force for 9 years, and was a very proud Veteran. He retired from the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier after 25 years, and was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
He married his one true love, Sharon Cruthers, on February 28, 1958. After his retirement, Jim and Sharon traveled in their RV all over the U.S. and Canada. Most important to Jim was having his family gathered together, especially when they would go camping at the Rifle River Recreation Area. He had many hobbies, including slow-pitch softball and playing the hammered dulcimer; he loved to dance (especially polka), and he and Sharon were stunning on the dancefloor for many, many years. He was always puttering around, and even had a bicycle and small engine repair shop that he ran out of his garage. He loved a good joke and had a wonderful sense of humor.
In addition to his wife Sharon, Jim is survived by his children, Kelly (Jeff) Searfoss, Gregory (Donna-Maria) Flood and Randy (Amy) Flood; grandsons, Joshua Flood and Jeremy (Ashley) Flood; great grandson, Oliver “Ollie” Flood; brother, Jack (Barb) Flood of South Carolina; and two nieces and one nephew. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Jerry (Donna) Flood.
In honoring Jim’s wishes cremation has taken place, and a small private service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission.
