James H. "Jim" Hurley

Our loving husband, father and grandfather passed away Friday evening, November 7, 2014 at McLaren Bay Region with his family by his side. Age 85 years. The son of the late Hayes and Eleanor (Borneman) Hurley was born August 25, 1929 in Bay City. He retired in 1989 after thirty seven years of service as a Tool and Die Maker from G.M. Powertrain Bay City Plant. He was a member of Corpus Christi Parish/Holy Trinity Campus, a member of the ushers club, an active member of the parish council and the booster club. He was a very active member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, very instrumental in starting a Boy Scout troop for the handicapped and was a member of the Elks B.P.OE. # 88 and member of the American Legion Post #18. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hiking, watching Notre Dame Football and especially spending time with his family. Mr. Hurley served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1953 and was honorably discharged from the First Calvary 8th Engineers. Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife the former Madeline L. Mac Millan whom he married May 30, 1953, his children and their spouses; James P. and Julie Ann Hurley, Robert and Diane Hurley, Dan and Deadra Hurley, Kevin and Ashley Hurley and Mary Beth Taglauer, eleven grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, his sister and brother-in-law; Rosemary and Raymond Henika, his brother-in-law; Francis Mac Millan, his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law; Nancy and Carl Jones and Janice Hurley, many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his son; Patrick Michael Hurley, his brothers; William, Jeremiah and John Hurley. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Parish/Holy Trinity Campus 906 S. Wenona St. Bay City, MI 48706. The celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Robert S. Gohm with the Rite of Committal following in St. Patrick's Cemetery followed by Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council and the U.S. Army. The Family will be present at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. to receive family and friends on Monday from 2:00 to 9:00 pm. The Vigil for the Deceased will take place Monday evening at7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Hurley will be taken to the church on Tuesday to lie in state from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services.
