James L. Murphy Jr., a beloved son, father, brother, and friend, left this world unexpectedly on January 18, 2026, at the age of 51, in the comfort of his home. Born on November 22, 1974, in Bay City, Michigan, James lived a life filled with laughter and joy, leaving an indelible mark on everyone he met.
For many years, James dedicated himself to his work as a CNC Machinist at Keel, where he was known for his skill and professionalism. But beyond his career, it was his vibrant personality and great sense of humor that truly defined him. James had a unique ability to brighten any room he entered, bringing laughter and light to those around him.
His passions included an array of hobbies that showcased his adventurous spirit. He was an avid fan of RC cars and found exhilaration riding four-wheelers. James also loved immersing himself in the world of music, working tirelessly on trucks and cars, and indulging in woodworking. There was nothing quite like enjoying a cold beer by the bonfire, surrounded by loved ones, sharing stories and creating lasting memories.
James was a devoted father to his sons, Brandon (Anna) Murphy and Evan (Molly) Murphy, who were the pride and joy of his life. His love for them was profound, and he cherished the time spent together, instilling in them the same sense of adventure that he held dear. He is also survived by his father, James Murphy Sr., and his ex-wife, Heather Petty Murphy, with whom he shared meaningful moments.
He leaves behind his loving sisters, Lisa (Gerald) Lauria and Melissa (John) Neuman, whose bonds of sisterhood were strong and unwavering, his brother, Steve Murphy, Additionally, James is remembered fondly by his niece and nephew, Jacob Lauria and Katie Lauria; cousins, Johnny and many more whose lives he touched with his warmth and humor.
James is now reunited in spirit with his beloved mother, Kay Murphy, who preceded him in death. Her absence leaves a significant void in all who loved them, yet her memory shines brightly through James and the values she instilled in him.
As we celebrate the life of James L. Murphy Jr., let us remember the vibrant spirit he brought into our lives and the joy he found in the simplest of moments. His legacy of laughter, love, and adventure will forever be cherished in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
