Mr. Steinhauer passed away suddenly on Monday morning May 31, 2010 at his residence, age 82. The son of the late Andrew & Emma (Schmidt) Steinhauer, he was born October 7, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. Jim served with the US Navy during WWII and retired from Bay City GM Powertrain. He was a member of Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church and was also a member of the League of Catholic Women & Men. He enjoyed gardening, carpentry and woodworking. Although retired, Jim loved to work on many different projects and always was available to help out his neighbors. On September 27, 1952 Jim married the former Joyce M. Wood in St. Joseph Catholic Church and she survives him along with their daughter, Jodi (Rick) Mosher of Bay City; grandchildren, Lindsay Anne Steinhauer, Cody Steinhauer and Jenna Mosher; daughter-in-law, Denise Steinhauer of Bay City; and sister-in-law, Lenora Finlan of Bay City. Besides his parents, Jim was also preceded in death by his son, James R. Steinhauer II in 2006; step-sisters, Margaret, Del, Grace and Betty; and step-brothers, Timothy, Richard and Harold 'Scooter'. The Funeral Liturgy and Rite of Committal will take place at 10:00am on Thursday June 3, 2010 at Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church. Officiating will be Rev. Fr. Stephen J. Fillion, followed by Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council. Private interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00pm with the Vigil for the Deceased beginning at 6:30pm. Mr. Steinhauer will lie instate at the church on Thursday from 9:00am until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of the Visitation Catholic Church.
