James F. Zyonse

Mr. James F. Zyonse, of Auburn, passed away Monday afternoon, May 9, 2016 at his residence, age 73. The son of the late John and Victoria (Leszczynski) Zyonse, he was born on August 4, 1942 in Highland Park, MI and was raised in Mt. Pleasant. He went on the serve in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Jim was an insurance agent with Allstate Insurance and then with MCI in Bay City. He attended St. Gabriel Parish and was a member of the Beaverton Eagles Club. Jim was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed cooking, hunting, woodcarving birds, and making stained glass. He was a true people person and had a great personality, easily making friends. Jim loved to tell a good joke, and was a very kind-hearted man.
On June 20, 2014 Jim married Barbara J. Balwinski-Garrett and she survives him along with his two children, Kathryne Brooks of Haslett, MI and Jeffrey (Marcy) Zyonse of Tampa, FL; three step-children, Kristy (Michael) LaVictoire of Auburn, Kevin (Ann) Garrett of Ohio and Keith (Dorothy) Garrett of Linwood; five grandchildren, Kelsey, Taylor, Gavin, Abby and Oliver; seven step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Gene Brooks of Saginaw; his twin sister, Gail Maturo of New Jersey; two brothers, Robert (Naomi) Zyonse of Oklahoma and Patrick (Helen) Zyonse of Mt. Pleasant; a brother-in-law, Bobby (Donna) Balwinski of Auburn; a special aunt, Violet McDaniels of Detroit; and several nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at St. Gabriel Parish - St. Anthony Church, 1492 W. Midland Rd., Auburn, MI 48611. The Celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Thomas E. Sutton followed by Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Army and the Bay County Veterans Council. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Friday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. with the Vigil Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Zyonse will lie instate at the church on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
