Janet S. “Jan” (Knoerr) Hoerauf passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025 at the Bay Valley House at the age of 91. The daughter of the late Martin and Matilda (Vogel) Knoerr was born July 4, 1934 in Saginaw, Michigan. Jan graduated from T.L. Handy High School and then worked for six years at Industrial Brownhoist. She married her husband Gerald on June 11, 1955. After her children started school, she worked at Bay Medical Center in the administration department for 25 years. She also attended Delta College part time and received her Associates Degree; she then attended Central Michigan University and received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree. Jan was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust for all of her life. She was active in the Ladies Aid and served as president. She was also active in the LCFS Board and Auxiliary and she served as past president in both. After her retirement she volunteered at LCFS Thrift Store. Jan and her husband spent 20 winters in Yuma, AZ after her retirement where she enjoyed the warm sun, golfing and playing cards.
Jan is survived by her husband, Gerald Hoerauf; daughter, Lori (Jerome) Urbaniak; brother, Harvey Rugenstein; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Knoerr and Bonnie List; brothers-in-law, Thomas (Nancy) Hoerauf and Frank Wozniak and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her son, Terry G. Hoerauf on January 5, 1980; brothers, Howard Knoerr, Larry Knoerr; sister, Elvira Hoerauf; brothers-in law, Erwin Hoerauf, Eugene (Bonnie) Rugenstein and William List; sisters-in-law, Darlene Rugenstein, Carol Wozniak and Marie Knoerr and her brother-in-law, Charles Hoerauf.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Bay Valley House for the compassion and care that they gave to Janet.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust. Officiating will be Pastor Dennis Matyas with Committal following in St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at the Gephart Funeral Home, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In Lieu of flower, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Ministry Center or a charity of your choice.
