John passed away peacefully with his family by his side at MyMichigan Medical Center in Saginaw, Michigan on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at the age of 92. He was born on July 5, 1933 to the Late James and Ruth (Younker) Gillespie in Bay City, Michigan. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust. John enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, carpentry work, golfing with his wife, bowling, playing baseball and loved spending time with his family, and coaching hockey, softball, basketball and spending time with all the neighbors he welcomed into his home.
John is survived by his children, William (Peggy) Gillespie, Timothy Gillespie, Denise (Rick) Dubay and Susan Gillespie (Michael Ulbricht); grandchildren, Jackie (Jeff) Sporte, Angela (Michael) Schmidt, Nina (Dan) Nussear, Kevin (Allie) Przytula, Jeremy Przytula, Sean (Ashley) Gillespie, Kyle (Brooklyn) Gillespie, Evan Ulbricht and Mikayla Ulbricht; 18 great grandchildren; brothers, Jim (Lou) Gillespie and Robert Gillespie, sister-in-laws, Kay Wagner, Shirley Gillespie, and Bonnie Gillespie and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of over 67 years, Sandra Gillespie; grandson, David Przytula II; brother’s, Carl Gillespie, Paul Gillespie and Ray (Corky) Gillespie and sister’s, Gloria (Dick) Misiak, Charlotte (Ron) Wanless and Margie Gillespie; and brother-in-law, James Wagner.
Funeral Service for John will take place on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust with cremation to follow. A private inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Dennis Matyas. The family will be present to receive visitors at the Church on Tuesday, February 17, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to the Wishes of the Family.
