John Walter Guernsey

John passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, February 24, 2023 at the age of 84. He was born to the late Walter and Alice (Brady) Guernsey on April 23, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan. He was in the United States Naval Reserve for several years before he received his degree in accounting. He attended Holy Rosary Academy as a young boy and continued his education at St. Joseph’s High School. After high school he received his Degree in Accounting from the University of Detroit. After college he worked for Ford Motor Company for several years and then began his career at Seidman and Seidman Accounting Firm and worked there for many years. In 1987 he moved back to Detroit and worked for several small Accounting Firms before he retired. After retirement, John enjoyed traveling with his wife, Margaret and many of their close friends to Ireland and Florida. He also loved sports, specifically baseball, basketball and football.

John is survived by his children, John Guernsey, Matt Guernsey and Joe (Cheryl) Guernsey; grandchildren, Alex Guernsey, Amelia Guernsey, Maggie Guernsey, Emma Guernsey and Andrew Guernsey; sister, Betty Collison; nephews, Alan Storm, Dan Storm, Dave Collison, Rob Collison and John Collison; niece, Heather Anderson and several other nieces, nephews and cousins on his wife’s side. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret (Sullivan) Guernsey. They spent over 30 years together creating many memories before her passing in 2005. He is also predeceased by his sisters, Mary Prokop and Margaret Storm; brother, Robert Guernsey; brother-in-law, Duke Collison and nephew, Michael Storm.

Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at the Gephart Funeral Home. Officiating will be Hank Messing. The family will be present to receive visitors at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wishes of the Family.
