Owen, John Edwin Bay City, Michigan Mr. Owen passed away Monday evening January 28, 2013 at his residence at the age of 94 years. He was born September 10, 1918 in Carrollton, Michigan and had resided in Bay City most of his life. He was a Active member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, was a founding member of The Clover Leaf Club, and a member of B.P.O. E. Lodge # 88. John proudly served his Country in the United States Army Air Corps from April 13, 1942 to September 22, 1945 during WW II. He formerly owned and operated Owens Food Express on Marquette Ave. in Bay City and retired from Bay City Public School System/ Bay City Western High School as the supervisor of maintenance. Mr. Owen enjoyed traveling in his motorhome, playing cards and most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. On May 4, 1946 he married the former Kathleen M. "Kay" Loranger in Holy Family Catholic Church and she survives his passing along with four children; Ronald J. (Betty) Owen of Auburn, Karol K. (Larry) Gorske of Linwood, Alan J. (Janet) Owen of Bay City and Craig A.(Kathy Larson) Owen of Longmont, CO, six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; Andy (Kate) Gorske and their children; Sawyer and Tucker, Peter (Meghan) Gorske, Matthew (Melissa) Gorske and their children; Madelyn and Leighton, Brian (Erin) Owen and their children; Elizabeth and Abigail, David Owen and his children; Lilli, Wyatt, Mollie and Lulu, Cristina (Jason Taylor) Owen and her twins; Sydnie and Samantha and many nieces, nephews and special friends. He was preceded by his father and mother; Alfred and Rose (Allard) Owen, his father-in-law and mother-in-law; Arthur and Leona (Petrimoulx) Loranger and his brothers and sisters; Burt Owen, Charlotte Rice, Lillian Becker, Melvin Owen, Rose Beck, Ella Koch, Mildred Owen and Alfred Owen. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mr. Owens caregivers, Lois, Sandy, Carla, Lisa and Kiara for the kind and compassionate care they provided for John during the time they cared for him. Funeral Services will take place Friday, February 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Alban's Episcopal Church. Officiating will be The Rev. Nancy Steele with entombment following in Calvary Mausoleum in Kawkawlin under the Auspices of the Bay County Veterans Council and members of the United States Army. Friends may call at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m.. Mr. Owen will be taken to the church on Friday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. and until the time of service. Memorial cards for St. Alban's Episcopal Church will be available at the funeral home.
