Joyce Elaine Borchardt

Joyce passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2022 at Bay Shores Senior Center surrounded by her family at the age of 88. The daughter of the late LeVern and Florence (Meggison) McGhan was born March 8, 1933 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Joyce was raised in her beloved Charlevoix, Michigan where she graduated as the valedictorian in 1951 from Charlevoix High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Bay Osteopathic Hospital and was a church choir director for many years, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Joyce is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert J. Borchardt; two daughters, Marsha (Mark) Kowalsky and Karin (Dan) Fochtman; five grandchildren, Meredith (Blake) Sievers, Melissa (Dave) Coberley, Matthew Kowalsky, Katie (Tyler) Waibel and Andrew (Karissa) Sylvester; six great grandchildren, Isabelle and Samantha Sievers, Kaitlin Coberley, and Olivia, Austin and Layla Waibel and several nieces. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her brother, Clare McGhan.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Bay Shores Senior Center for their compassion and care that they gave to Joyce.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at the Gephart Funeral Home. Officiating will be Pastor Marc Alba with private interment following in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends and family can visit at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial cards for the wishes of the family will be available at the funeral home.
