June Georgena Herter

With heavy hearts, we must announce the passing of our beloved Mother & Grandmother, June Herter. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 29, 2025, just shy of her 103rd birthday. We are comforted, knowing that she is reunited with the love of her life, Phil Herter.

June was born to the late Ghent and Cecelia (Beckett) Fallon on July 1st, 1922, in Akron, Ohio. She became a registered nurse before she met her future husband, Philip. They married on December 29th, 1943, while he was on leave from the army. They had two children, Fred and Debby, before they moved to Bay City to set down their roots. In 1952, Phil and June purchased Hardy Music and set forth their destiny as co-owners of what is now known as Herter Music Center. They worked side by side for over 40 years before deciding to retire.

They spent their free time going on exciting adventures. They loved to travel together, visiting many places in Europe, Canada, and the United States. Other activities they enjoyed doing together included sailing, skiing, swimming, and flying a plane to special destinations with Phil as the Pilot and June as his Navigator. Their summers were spent mostly with friends and family at their cabin in Galeton, Pennsylvania where Happy Hour was every hour with Phil’s homemade wine and June’s delicious cooking.

June was a past president of the YWCA in Bay City during the sixties and a founding member of the Bay Heritage Quilting Guild. Her other passions included gardening, reading (you could always find a book in her hand), playing cards and games with her family and friends. Her favorites were Bridge, Skip-Bo, Phase 10, and Five Crowns. She really loved beating the socks off her opponent!

June is survived by her children, Fred (Genie) Herter and Debby (Pat) Downing; her grandchildren, Natalie (Ernie) Martinez, Stephanie (Ryan) Clyde, and Heather (Terry) Leser; her great grandchildren, Taylor, Aubrey, Kaylee and Alexis Martinez, Samantha, Cassidy, Dominic, and Ashley Clyde, and Cassandra Leser; her great-great grandchildren, Adair, Ryker, and Zayden Martinez, along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia (Bill) Myers and brothers-in-law, Robert (Margaret) Herter and John (Mary) Herter.

A special thank you to the wonderful staff at Symphony Tri-Cities for their great care and compassion with June. She lived there many years and loved everyone who took care of her.

We will miss her infectious smile, lovely laugh, and heartfelt joy that she had for everything she took part in. Her optimistic hope in all things was a rarity. We consider ourselves fortunate to have been her family.

A Memorial Service for June will be held on Monday, July 7th, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. at Gephart Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Philip Baerwolf. The family will be present to receive visitors on Monday at the Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that all donations go to the Phil & June Herter Memorial Scholarship for Band Camp.
