June Elaine Stevens

June Elaine Stevens (Laur), a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 30, 2024. She was born on March 14, 1923 in Bay City to Eva (Stender) Laur and Clarence Laur. June grew up with two brothers, Clarence “Abe” (Terrie) Laur and William (Lucille, Joyce) Laur, and fondly remembered the joy of family gatherings at their cabin on the Au Sable River.

She graduated from Bay City Central High School in 1941. In 1943, June married the love of her life, Clarence Sheldon Stevens, in Springfield, Missouri. They shared 47 years together until Clarence's passing in 1990.

June and Clarence found their beloved home at Ricomo Beach on Saginaw Bay in 1954, where June continued to find joy and contentment throughout her life. She helped with the family-owned Stevens Creamery on Third Street in Bay City and later worked at the Delta College bookstore when she retired to care for Clarence.

A devoted member of the Kawkawlin Community Church, June found joy in many activities including long walks, reading, playing cards, cheering on Michigan sports, bird watching, gardening, cross-stitching, golfing, and calligraphy. She even continued water skiing into her late 60s. June also cherished the company of numerous cats throughout her life, whom she lovingly spoiled.

In retirement, June's winters were often spent in Gulf Shores, Alabama, where she found peace and relaxation. To her family and friends, she was known for her outgoing personality, intelligence, sweet tooth, energy, and love. Despite standing at just 4 feet 11 inches, she was an unstoppable force whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

June’s loving legacy is remembered by her three daughters: Kay (Anthony) Duranczyk, Carole (Charles) Selander, and Lynn (Kenneth) Trepkowski, as well as her grandchildren and their spouses: Todd (Cheryl) Johnson, Steven (Kimberly) Johnson, Jonathan (Erica) Selander, Lindsey (Jeffrey) Selander, Jared (Heidi) Trepkowski, and Jeremy (Ester) Duranczyk. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Jordan and Justin Sawatzke; Olivia, Eliza, and Jackson Trepkowski; and Brendan and Andrea Duranczyk.

June is also survived by her sister-in-law Terrie Laur and friends Margie Cox, Eileen Thomas, Kathy Pembroke, and Gene and Lois Clark. Her family would like to extend their gratitude to McLaren Hospice and caregivers Diane, Diana, and Kathy.

Funeral service for June will be taking place on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Kawkawlin Community Church with a private interment to follow. Officiating will be Pastor Scott Morris. The family will be present to receive visitors on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gephart Funeral Home and on Thursday at the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
