Karen J. Stachowski

Karen Joy Stachowski, a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend, gracefully departed this world on February 2, 2026, at the age of 86 after a brief illness at the University of Michigan Hospital. She was born on May 30, 1939, in Bay City, Michigan, the daughter of Norris B. and Ethel (Foster) Thompson.

Karen found immense fulfillment in her family, cherishing her bond with her husband, Michael Stachowski, whom she married on June 3, 1961. For 64 beautiful years, their love story blossomed, filled with laughter, mutual respect, and deep commitment. They were blessed with a son, Stephen Stachowski, daughter-in-law, Karin, and as a grandparent, Karen took great pride in her grandsons, Nicholas and Thomas Stachowski, whom she adored and supported in every endeavor.

With a quiet, loving personality that truly suited her middle name, Karen embodied joy in every aspect of her life. She was a proud High School Graduate of Central High School who went on to an enjoyable career, dedicating many years as a bookkeeper for Midwest Jewelry and Holy Trinity Grade School before becoming the office manager for Brooks Beverage - 7up Company for 25 years. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi for 50 years. Her meticulous nature and unwavering dedication to her work were matched only by her loving devotion to her family.

Her faith played a significant role in Karen's life; although she was unable to regularly attend church in her later years, she found solace in watching Mass on television each week, reflecting her steadfast belief and spirituality. Karen was an active volunteer at Holy Trinity Church (Corpus Christi), contributing her time to the choir for many years, and supporting All Saints High School through fundraising efforts for the Band and Hockey programs. These acts of service demonstrated her love for her community and her desire to uplift those around her. Karen’s journey brought joy and warmth to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

In addition to her immediate family, Karen is survived by her brothers-in-law, Richard (Caroline) Kujawa and Kenneth Warren, along with cherished nieces and nephews, Bobbie Jean Bragg, Becky Schumacher, Scott Warren, Jill Warren, Brad Warren, and Marci Kujawa, as well as great nieces and nephews and a great-great niece and nephew. Each of these relationships added layers to her life, and she treasured the moments spent with them. The absence of such a vibrant soul will be felt deeply in their hearts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Norris and Ethel (Foster) Thompson; her sisters, Beverly Heinz and Deanna Warren; brother-in-law, Robert Heinz; sister-in-law, Maxine Kujawa; and nephew, Patrick Kujawa.
