Karin Barbro Annalisa McCree

Barbro McCree passed peacefully, on October 26, 2018. Preceded by her parents, Verner and Elin, sisters Britta Elgaker and Kerstin Wallhede, and husband Keith Jeffrey McCree.  Survived by Keith's sister Marion, sons John (Robin) and Alan (Hina), nephews/nieces Lars, Henrik, Magnus and Margarethe, and grandchildren Anisa (Collin), Stephen (Mariel), Sean (Brittany) and Brad (David).
Born June 14, 1935, in Goteborg, Sweden, to Torsten Verner Persson and Syster Elin Alfrida Persson (Larsson). Barbro met Keith while hiking with school friends in the mountains of Austria, and they were married in November 1957.  They lived briefly in London while Keith completed his PhD, before returning to Keith's home and family in Christchurch and Eastbourne, New Zealand, where Barbro became a stay-at-home mother for sons John Olof McCree and Alan Verner McCree.
In 1966 Dad took a post-doctoral position at University of California Davis. The following year the family moved to Bryan, Texas, and Dad became a professor at Texas A&M University.  Barbro was an active band parent on Friday Nights, and encouraged her sons to attend Rice University after graduation.
In 1990, Barbro and Keith retired to Oakridge, Oregon, where they enjoyed hiking the trails of the Upper Willamette Valley. Mom and Dad's sisters, and several friends and family traveled from around the country and the world to visit with them.
After Keith passed in 2014, Mom left her home in Eugene and said goodbye to Simone, her friend and caregiver, to live with Alan and Hina in Ellicott City, Maryland, and spend summers with John and Robin in Bay City, Michigan. Living with family, Nana was able to reconnect with her grandchildren, and celebrate their weddings and life successes.
Mom loved the outdoors, hiking, gardening and watching birds. She was thoughtful and soft-spoken, shared a kind and generous spirit, and always put those around her ahead of herself.  She was a loving and supportive wife for 56 years, an encouraging mother and grandmother, author, friend to everyone she met, and truly loved by those who knew her well.
In keeping with Barbro's wishes, a cremation will be followed by a private family service in Oregon.
