Kenneth M. Born

Kenneth M. Born, a devoted family man and cherished member of the Bay City community, passed away peacefully at his home on April 24, 2026, due to natural causes. Born in Bay City, Michigan, on December 5, 1959. Ken was a devoted husband to his wife, Carla for 29 years. they loved to travel together, cook gourmet meals and visit with their family and friends. They both Described each other as the love of their lives.

Growing up immersed in the family business of Born Brothers Farms, Ken developed a profound connection to the land and agricultural traditions. This foundation guided him through his career, leading him to purchase the family home and embark on his own venture, the Green Thumb Green House, where he cultivated a deep appreciation for gardening and nurturing growth. For over three decades, Ken dedicated himself to Michigan Sugar, contributing his skills and commitment to an industry he knew and valued.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Ken was a man of varied interests and spirited spirit. He loved watching sports, engaging in lively discussions about politics, and spent countless hours fishing, farming, and gardening. Above all, he treasured spending time with his family, finding joy and strength in their company.

Ken is survived by a loving circle of family and dear friends who will carry forward his memory. His sister Barb Born; son Mike (Elissa) Deming; Pat (William) LaForest and their children Chris (Shann) and Lisa (Bryon); brother Tim (Jill) Born; sister-in-law, Linda Engelhardt; Gloria Rose and her daughters Angela and Olivia; her son Oliver; brother Frederick (Jay) Engelhardt and his sons Wade (Mackenzie) along with their children Ellie and Owen, Garrett, and daughter Evie with their mother Debbie Finkbiener; and numerous great nieces, nephews, and cousins; best friends Tim and Frankie; all hold Ken in their hearts.

Ken was preceded in death by his wife of 29 years, Carla Engelhardt, whom he often spoke of as the love of his life; parents Earl and Elaine Born; beloved uncle Walt Born; nephew Dallas Foco; mother and father-in-law Frederick “Sonny” and Leona Engelhardt; sister-in-law Cynthia Engelhardt; Linda’s partner Anthony “Tony” Kocinski; and his cherished dogs Moritz and Gusty.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gephart Funeral Home. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be considered to The Bay County Humane Society.
