Kevin James McGeachy (April 6, 1958 - June 11, 2023) died unexpectedly following complications from a successful bypass surgery, in Bay City, Michigan. Kevin is survived by his children, Matthew McGeachy (Susannah) of Toronto, Canada and Katelyn Moody (John) of Warren, MI; grandchildren Eleanor, Amelia, Edward, and Benjamin; life partner Marlene Sosnoski Jobe of Port Austin, MI; brother Daniel of Savannah, GA; former spouse Denice Hecksel of Lake Isabella, MI; many nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. He was predeceased by his father James Irvin McGeachy; stepfather Les Salisbury; mother Betty Nadine Salisbury (née Penfold); and brother Larry. Kevin was born in Pontiac, MI, and graduated from Waterford Kettering High School and Oakland University. He lived in Auburn Hills and Troy for many years, where he and Denice raised their children. Work eventually took him to Fond du Lac, WI, before he cashed out to follow his dream of running a bar in the Thumb, the Owendale Pub, and restoring the Penfold Family farm house near Kinde. After years of “good friends and good times” he sold the OP, and he and Marlene divided their happy life between the Thumb and Bradenton, FL. Kevin was extremely proud of his children, besotted with his grandchildren, and profoundly happy amongst his friends and Sosnoski family in Port Austin and Bradenton. If friendship is an art, Kevin was Michaelangelo. He maintained many deep, lifelong friendships, and also made new friends everywhere he went. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 1-6pm at Seven Pines, 7615 Crockard Road, Port Austin, MI, 48467. In lieu of flowers, do something kind to pay it forward: donate blood, paint a neighbor’s porch, or buy a friend a drink. It’s what Kevin would do.
