Kim passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021, at Covenant Cooper, Saginaw from COVID-19.  He was 62 years old and peacefully was called to the Lord with friends and family by his side.  He was born in Bay City, MI on October 8, 1958, to the late Francis and Vivian (King) Whalen.  Kim attended Akron-Fairgrove High School Class of 1976.  He continued his education studying Business Management at Delta College and Northwood University.  Kim worked for United Airlines at MBS and DTW airports for 28 years.  His recent work was with Bavarian Inn Lodge for 15 years as Revenue Manager and other roles, Frankenmuth MI.  He was also involved in numerous nonprofit organizations.  Kim was always available with guidance and welcome arms to his peers and friends, who loved his quick wit and belly laughs.  He was instrumental with production performances at the Frankenmuth Cheese Haus, a Figurinespiel where tourists can hear about, "The World of Cheese," featuring five children and their pets from around the world.  Kim was on the City Beautification Committee for many years helping guide the aesthetic enhancements within the City of Frankenmuth.  Kim was a Christian with a servant's heart. He attended Akron United Methodist and St. Lorenz Church of Frankenmuth.  He was a talented craftsman, loved horticulture and flowers, family, dogs, fancy cars, collecting matchbox cars, bourbon, cigars, tattoos, flying, skydiving, and entertaining.

Kim is a survived spirit within his sisters, Sandra Partlo and Judy Beach; nieces and nephews, Teri (Jerry) Best, Kurt (Cheryl) Partlo, Lori (Dan) Miller, Lisa (Fred) Wasco, Teresa (Tim) Graham, Mitzi (Dan) Schwab, Angela (Anthony) Cochran, Heidi (John) Freed and John Taylor; great-nieces and nephews, Ashley (Dejan Korkut) Partlo, Kyle (Gabby) Partlo, Chad Wasco, Kaylee Wasco, Chelsea Best, Julia Miller, and Autumn (Justin) Scherzer; great-great-nieces and nephews, Vivian and Marcel Korkut, Crew Partlo, Lucas, Kennedy, and Kinsley Scherzer; Wife of 23 years, Charmaine Boesenecker Whalen; close personal friends and beloved Lodge Family. Kim was preceded in death by his brothers-in-law, Larry Beach and Richard (Dick) Partlo, his dog Autumn Bandy Woodlore, and parents Francis and Vivian Whalen of Akron.

At the request of Kim, cremation has taken place. An invitation-only memorial service with Celebration of his life and as a guardian angel will take place on Monday, May 24, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Gephart Funeral Home in Bay City. Pastor Dan Miller will officiate. The family will be present at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. until the time of service to receive family and friends. A private luncheon will follow the memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at the Bavarian Inn Lodge in Frankenmuth.
