Kit (Catherine) Ranous, age 78, entered the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, early Monday morning, May 18, 2026, at St. Paul’s Senior Living in South Bend, Indiana.
Born on June 4, 1947, in Bay City, Michigan, she was the daughter of the late James and Helen (Adams) Sweeney. Kit graduated from T.L. Handy High School in 1965. Following graduation, she was employed as a secretary with Dow Chemical Company in Midland for more than ten years before dedicating herself to raising her family.
On November 30, 1974, she married Mike “Jack” Ranous, and together they shared 46 wonderful years of marriage before his passing.
Throughout her life, Kit faithfully followed the Lord, deeply loved her family, and joyfully served her church, friends, children, and grandchildren. Her grandchildren affectionately called her “Mimi.” Her attention to birthdays and anniversaries, her willingness to drive around the tri-cities or across the state to help, her perfectly wrapped gift packages and her unmistakable penmanship are small memories that many will cherish.
Left with gratitude for her life and hope for a heavenly reunion are her children: Jon (Bethann) Ranous, Christy (Billy) Harvey, and Greg (Krista) Ranous; her eleven grandchildren: Anna, Noah, Micah, Sheldon, MaKayla, Jedidiah, Jolene, Mia, Wyatt, Arabella, and Emslie; and her brother, James Sweeney.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 12:00 noon at New Life Missionary Church, officiated by Rev. Jonathan Boyer. Private interment will take place at Fremont Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Those wishing to express sympathy may consider memorial contributions to New Life Missionary Church or Gospel Center Missionary Church.
