Laurence "Larry" "Pork" Schwartz

Larry passed away Monday, December 26, 2016 at Covenant Health Care-Cooper. Age 81 years. The son of the late Adolph and Edna (Winquest) Schwartz was born January 15, 1935 in Pinconning, Michigan. Larry was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He retired from R.W.C. after 34 years of faithful service. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local. Larry enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren,hunting, fishing, camping, building model airplanes, he built his two homes, he was very mechanically inclined and enjoyed working on cars and boat motors. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Left behind to cherish Larry's memories are his wife Jeannette E. Schwartz whom he married May 25, 1963; one daughter, Gayle (Rick) Schmidt; one son, L. Garry (Barbara) Schwartz; his grandchildren, Krista (Derrick) Backstrom, Laura Schmidt, Derek (Autumn) Loveland, Miranda Schwartz and Emily Schwartz; his great grandchildren, Caleb, Derian, Deikon, Ava, Ally, Shila, Ava, Maya and Madilyn; his sisters and brothers, Donna Koepf, Ronald (Cathy) Schwartz, James (Elaine) Schwartz and Judy (Butch) Howard; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie Jane Schwartz, brother, Delene "Pug" Schwartz, his niece, Cheryl Walczyk. Funeral Services will take place Friday, December 30, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church. Officiating will be Rev. Paul G. Kruse followed by Military Honors conducted by the Bay County Veterans Council and the U.S. Army. Private interment will take place in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will be present at the Gephart Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. to receive family and friends. Larry will be taken to the church on Friday to lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider donations to Zion Lutheran Church.
