Leon Lee Katzinger

Leon passed away peacefully on December 23, 2022 at MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland, Michigan at the age of 76. He was born to the late Peter and Rica (Amram) Katzinger on August 20, 1946 in Bay City, Michigan. Leon was a past member of Temple Israel. He was very involved in his community and was the past President and Board member of the Bay County Historical Society, as well as the Principal of Dorland, Lindsay, McKinley and Auburn Schools. He was a member of various groups and associations of Educators and Principals.
Leon was an author of 3 Bay City Books; "Bay City 1900-1940 in Vintage Postcards", "Bay City and Beyond in Vintage Postcards" and "Bay City - Then and Now". He was an avid reader and loved the Detroit Tigers, tennis and volleyball.
Leon always said he lived a wonderful life and was much loved by family, friends and everyone who knew him. He touched the lives of his students, parents and teachers in his long career. He enjoyed life to the fullest - family, friends, hobbies and music. He met the last years of his life with courage and strength.
Leon is survived by his wife, Jerrolynn, whom he married on May 18, 1968 and they spent over 54 years together creating many memories. He is also survived by his children, Joshua (Sherri) Katzinger and Dr. Joseph (Jennifer) Katzinger; grandchildren, Caleb Katzinger and Lilly Katzinger; sister, Linda (Richard) Williams; sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Eric) Carter; nieces, Lynn and Shea and nephew, Gareth.
A private burial will take place at the Bay City Community Jewish Cemetery. A memorial service is being planned for the future and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Leon's name to the Bay County Historical Society or a charity of your choosing.
