Leona M. Scharich

Leona M. Scharich, age 95, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, June 22, 2025, at Sheffield Bay Assisted Living in Bay City.

Leona was born on November 25, 1929, in Akron, Michigan, the youngest of 12 children born to the late Rosina (Weingert) and David Wagner. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold Scharich, in August 2007, as well as all 11 of her siblings.

Leona was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie VanWormer (Vince Drumright); her grandchildren, Justin VanWormer (Lynde Thomas) and Nicki (Brent) Legacy; and her great-grandchildren, Chad and Brady VanWormer, and Lexi Legacy.

A charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, Leona lived a life rooted in faith and family. She and Harold shared many adventures together, especially enjoying their time traveling in their classic 1978 GMC motorhome and spending winters at their second home in Englewood, Florida.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the wonderful staff at Sheffield Bay and the team at Amara Hospice for their loving care and support in Leona’s final days.

In honoring her wishes, a private memorial will be held at a later date.
