Leonard J. Zywicki Sr., a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on November 21, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. Born on July 14, 1933, in Cedar, Michigan, Leonard's life was characterized by warmth, joy, and a steadfast devotion to those he loved, and devotion to his Catholic Faith.
Leonard dedicated his career to the Operating Engineers Local 324, from which he retired. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War, embodying a spirit of service and dedication that marked much of his life. Those who knew him will remember his infectious smile and vibrant personality. Leonard loved life, and he always brought joy to every gathering, a light in the lives he touched.
Leonard had a variety of hobbies and interests that reflected his zest for life. He enjoyed sharing his homemade wine, a reflection of his passion for bringing people together. Hunting and fishing were among his favorite pastimes, providing both adventure and moments of tranquility in nature. Leonard also took pleasure in playing horseshoes, relishing the friendly competition. Most importantly, he treasured the time spent with his family, which formed the core of his happiness.
He married the love of his life, Norma Jean Belanger, with whom he celebrated 72 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they nurtured a large and loving family that includes six children: Judy (Paul) McGee, Steven (Margo) Zywicki, Jane (Chris) Gerard, Philip (Karen) Zywicki, Leonard Zywicki Jr., and Joyce (Jerry) Miller. Leonard was a proud grandfather to thirteen grandchildren and a delighted great-grandfather to fourteen great-grandchildren. His legacy of love extends to his seven brothers and five sisters, who will carry forth his spirit in their hearts. Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, John and Theresa (Plamondon) Zywicki.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Advisacare Hospice especially Todd, Kim, Holly, Melissa, and several others for the outstanding care they provided Leonard.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at Our Lady of Peace Parish – St. Mary’s Church. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, November 25, 2025 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Gephart Funeral Home and on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 from 8:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be considered to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
