Lowell Provoast passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, at Bayfield Memory Care. He was born on September 25, 1935, in Whittemore, Michigan, to the late Garfield and Edith Provoast.
On December 1, 1956, Lowell married the love of his life, Laura Chartier, at the former Visitation Church. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and the outdoors. Lowell was a founding member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish (formerly St. Vincent DePaul) and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for many years.
Lowell had a lifelong passion for hunting, fishing, and watching NASCAR. He was an avid member of the Mid-Michigan Steelheaders, earning multiple Skipper of the Year awards. He also helped start and organize the statewide Reel People Salmon Derby fishing tournament. Some of his happiest times were spent at his cabin in Whittemore. He instilled a love of camping in his family. Lowell and Laura camped throughout Michigan and across the United States with their families. A tradition that continues today with their children and grandchildren. They also spent many winters in Arizona, a place Lowell continued to visit after Laura’s passing.
Lowell began his engineering career at the Buick Plant in Flint, later working at Newcor and retiring from Saginaw Steering Gear. He concluded his working years at HES Engineering.
He is survived by his daughters, Tina (Carey) Lauzon, Nancy (Bob) Field, Sheri (Tom) Parker, and Jennifer Provoast (Jenny Kier and Mike Roth). He was a proud grandfather to Lewie (Carrisa) Lauzon, Maggie (Brett) Saha, Breina (Josh) Pugh, Sarah (Nick) Collins, Brandon (Kelsey) Field, Lauren (Luke) Shadiow, and Kristen (Derek) Striker, and a loving great-grandfather to Colt, Josie, Harper, Hadley, and Elaine. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, close friends, his sister Marian Chartier, and sisters-in-law Betty Purtell and Harriett Leonard.
In addition to his wife Laura and his parents, Lowell was preceded in death by his mother- and father-in-law, Lawrence and Elsie Chartier; his brother, Al Provoast; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Bev Provoast, Merle Chartier, Virginia (Ray) Markel, Maxine (Harry) Primeau, Edna (Dick) Lipan, Carol (Gary) Lewis, Carmen Chartier, Jim (Pat & Evelyn) Chartier, Howard (Cecilia & Mary) Chartier, Tom Chartier, and Robert Leonard.
The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, with private committal at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Gephart Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., with a Vigil for the Deceased at 5:00 p.m. Lowell will lie in state at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. A luncheon will follow at the parish center.
Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider a memorial contribution to the Mia Moo Fund to support cleft lip and palate surgery for those in need.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Bayfield Memory Care and CorsoCare Hospice for their loving care of Lowell.
