Marcia Lee Carlson

Marcia Lee Carlson passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit at the age of 82. The daughter of the late Marshall and Elizabeth (Walker) Sparling was born January 21, 1941 in Bay City, Michigan. Marcia was a proud and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, reading, studying history, writing to PenPals and thrift store shopping. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family.

Marcia is survived by her four children, Kathryn Margaret (Joseph) Day, Michael James Carlson, John Ruston Carlson and Thomas Verne (Nicole) Carlson; five grandchildren, Dillon (Tracy) Carlson, Andrew Joseph (Allison) Day, Brandon Douglas Hawke, Maverick Steven Hawke and Ryan Thomas Carlson; four great grandchildren, Evan, Lane, Lillianna and Jackson; nieces and nephews, Gloria Ann Sparling, Amy and Theresa Fleck and Eric Carlson; great niece, Adrianne Jewell Jones; sister-in-law, Linda (Dave) Fleck and many other, special family, friends and neighbors. In addition, to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Leo “Joe” Carlson; son, Joseph Marshall Carlson and her brother, James Lawrence Sparling.

At the request of Mrs. Carlson, cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Private inurnment will take place at a later date in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
